80s Actors

The fantastic movies of the decade wouldn’t have been the same without some even more fantastic 80s actors.

You can try, but you would probably have a hard time picturing somebody else playing Indiana Jones or Marty McFly.

In no particular order, because they are equally awesome, here are some of the most memorable actors of the 80s.

Harrison Ford

Harrison Ford – how cool is this guy? Already an established actor, Ford is arguably one of the most iconic 80s actors. He not only landed some great roles, but also truly brought those characters to life. He was, and still is, Indiana Jones and Han Solo. Ford was also in ‘Blade Runner,’ ‘Witness,’ ‘The Mosquito Coast,’ and ‘Frantic.’

Arnold Schwarzenegger

The ‘Governator’ also stayed busy during the 80s. He was in some great action flicks such as ‘Conan the Barbarian,’ ‘Conan the Destroyer,’ ‘The Terminator,’ ‘Commando,’ and ‘Predator,’ among many others.

Sylvester Stallone

Another great action star was Sylvester Stallone, who made ‘Rocky’ seem real. He also played the ultimate tough guy in ‘Rambo,’ and was in many other movies throughout the decade including ‘Escape to Victory,’ ‘Nighthawks,’ and ‘Cobra.’

Mel Gibson

Before comedies and controversy, Mel Gibson focused on action movies. Some of his best were ‘The Road Warrior, ‘Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome,’  ‘Lethal Weapon,’ and ‘Lethal Weapon 2.’

Michael J. Fox

Fox was not only on the small screen as the super-prep Alex P. Keaton. He was also the legendary Marty McFly in all the ‘Back to the Future’ flicks and the exceptionally hairy ‘Teen Wolf.’

Tom Hanks

Tom Hanks was in, among many others, ‘Splash,’ ‘Bachelor Party,’ The Money Pit,’ ‘Big,’ ‘The ‘Burbs,’ and ‘Turner and Hooch.’ The man stayed busy and kept us laughing.

Eddie Murphy

Before he was the voice of ‘Donkey’ in the ‘Shrek’ franchise, Eddie Murphy had a stand-up act that made your face hurt from laughing. Murphy was in some great 80s movies like ‘Beverly Hills Cop,’ and ‘Coming to America.’

John Candy

The great, late John Candy had impeccable comedic timing and was in some great classics of the 80s such as ‘Stripes,’ ‘Brewster’s Millions,’ ‘Spaceballs,’ ‘Planes, Trains and Automobiles,’ and ‘Uncle Buck,’ just to name a few.

Steve Martin

The always-funny Steve Martin was in ‘The Jerk,’ ‘The Three Amigos,’ ‘Roxanne,’ and made us all afraid of the dentist in his role of Orin Scrivello, DDS in ‘Little Shop of Horrors.’

Chevy Chase

Chevy Chase was in some of the funniest movies of the decade – including the ‘National Lampoon’s Vacation’ franchise,  two ‘Caddyshack’ and ‘Fletch’ movies, as well as ‘Three Amigos,’ and ‘Funny Farm.’

Bill Murray

Another leading funnyman, Murray had us in stitches in ‘Caddyshack,’ ‘Stripes,’ ‘Little Shop of Horrors,’ ‘Scrooged,’ and of course, the classic ‘Ghostbusters’ movies.

Jack Nicholson

Already well established and respected, Jack was in one of the scariest movies of the decade, ‘The Shining.’ He also starred in ‘The Postman Always Rings Twice,’ ‘Terms of Endearment,’ ‘Reds,’ and ‘The Witches of Eastwick.’

Other remarkable actors of the decade include Tom Cruise, Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro, Clint Eastwood, Dustin Hoffman, and Leslie Nielsen.

These talented 80s actors were the force behind many of the classic 80s movies that we still love today. They added something extra to these movies, made them even more awesome, and gained fans for life.
